Chido Govera presented at the Annual IWCABreakfast at Specialty Coffee Association of America Expo on April 26. Chido shared her story of growing up in poverty in Zimbabwe and how she learned to grow mushrooms to feed both her family and community. Chido designed a new way to cultivate mushrooms from coffee waste, which provided a self-sustaining answer to the problems wrought by poverty, gendered norms, economic immobility, and cultural barriers to self-actualization. She now travels the world sharing her model.
