IWCA Launches Aceh Recovery Fund to Support Coffee-Farming Communities After Floods and Landslides

In late November, severe floods and landslides swept across Aceh, cutting off entire communities within hours. Power failed. Roads disappeared. Communication networks went down. For many coffee-farming families in the IWCA community, everything they rely on—connection, mobility, access to supplies—vanished at once.

When limited communication finally reached us, the messages were straightforward and urgent:

“Eighty percent of our farmers have been affected.”
“We’ve had no power or communication for eight days.”

Several areas in Central Aceh and Bener Meriah remain difficult to reach. Families are managing with what little they have, while local leaders continue to navigate blocked roads, damaged infrastructure, and limited resources to coordinate relief.

In response, IWCA has launched the Aceh Recovery Fund to support the IWCA Indonesia Chapter and the Ketiara Cooperative as they carry out community-led disaster relief.

What Local Leaders Are Doing Right Now

The Ketiara Cooperative—working directly with leaders across affected villages—is organizing urgent support. They have already secured:

  • 25 generators to restore essential power

  • 25 Starlink units to re-establish communication in isolated communities

  • 200 sacks of rice (5 kg each) for families with limited food access

  • 10 diesel jerrycans to power generators

  • Air-force transport (Hercules aircraft) to deliver supplies into areas inaccessible by road

Their immediate goal is to install Starlink units across 25 villages so families can reconnect with loved ones, coordinate local response, and receive accurate information. Reliable communication remains one of the most urgent needs in the region.

How Your Support Helps

Every donation to the Aceh Recovery Fund goes directly to the teams on the ground—women who know their communities intimately and understand exactly where help is needed. Your contribution supports practical relief that helps families:

  • regain communication

  • access essential supplies

  • organize and respond locally

  • take early steps toward recovery and rebuilding

This is community-led disaster relief: direct, transparent, and responsive to real needs.
