Case Study: Honduras Chapter of the IWCA

Introduction to the IWCA Honduras Chapter

The Honduras Chapter of the International Women's Coffee Alliance (IWCA), Alliance of Women in Coffee in Honduras (AMUCAFE), is an association of women active across the entire coffee value chain dedicated to supporting, promoting and strengthening the role of women in all steps of coffee production, coffee processing and coffee trading.

A Journey of Growth and Expansion

Since its legal constitution in February 2013 as an independent association, AMUCAFE has undergone significant growth. What started as a collective effort has now expanded to include 337 active members, representing a diverse range of roles in the coffee industry.

From coffee producers and cuppers to baristas, traders, marketers, communications specialists, cafe owners, and even jewel and fashion designers, the organization embraces diversity in every aspect.

Strength in Partnerships

With this growth, the AMUCAFE organization evolved to include six sub-chapters encompassing six coffee areas of Honduras. Each sub-chapter corresponds to distinct coffee areas within Honduras, ensuring a comprehensive representation of the varied roles women play across different regions.

Covering the Coffee Landscape

AMUCAFE has developed important international partners: Coffee & Climate, NCBA CLUSA, Neumann Foundation, UTZ/Rainforest Alliance; and formed alliances with several national entities: IHCAFE, AHPROCAFE, ANACAFE, and the Sustainable Coffee Platform of Honduras.
